One of the most challenging aspects of my “Best Bet’s List of Non-Toxic Personal Care Products” has been to find a shampoo that is petrochemical-free and also performs well on the hair. For example, although I love Avalon Organics Hand and Body Lotion available at Whole Foods, their shampoo makes the hair look flat and lifeless. Same with Real Purity from Michigan – their deodorant is great but the shampoo performs terribly. As many of you know, I was carrying Paul Penders, but it turned out to be a fairly erratic company – i.e., sometimes the products I ordered were almost ready to expire, while others had a comfortable shelf life on them. I had to quit them after awhile because I began to worry about their quality with that kind of poor management.
 
 So, after trying to find alternatives for literally 15 years now, and also hearing from so many of you who have understandably been frustrated about the dearth of “clean” and functional shampoos available, I have finally decided to carry the Australian MiEssence line in the office (They have a warehouse in Nevada.). Although I have known about this company for years (footnote #146 on page 186 in Radical Medicine), I have hesitated recommending it because it is a multi-level company. However, since it is literally the only holistic company I have ever experienced that has hair products that are completely non-toxic and also perform very well on the hair, I finally realized that I should stock their products. (For those of you who are new to my practice and wondering about what all the fuss is about, look at the ingredient list on the back of your shampoo and check for methylparaben, propylene glycol, and other neurotoxic and carcinogenic preservatives.) For those of you who have been enjoying Aveda's (not totally clean) Pure Abundance hair products like me, remember it's good to rotate shampoos so you may want to try the MiEssence for a while and rotate them back and forth.
